About Us

Welcome to The Coach House Tea Room website.  The Coach House, which is run by Rita and Alan Colby, opened in July 2009 and offers visitors a warm reception in cosy surroundings.

We serve a wide range of refreshments, including teas, coffees, and soft drinks, as well as home-made sandwiches, cakes and scones.  Locally sourced, seasonal, and fair-trade ingredients are used wherever possible.

As well as the tea room there is a gift shop and gallery featuring the work of local artists and craftspeople.  The listed building also serves as a base for a range of activities, and we can cater for private parties and functions.

The Coach House is sited on the village green in Elsdon, which was once the capital of medieval Redesdale.  It is an historic and picturesque village in the heart of Northumberland National Park, and lies on the B6341 between Otterburn and Rothbury, less than 2 miles from the A696.

Elsdon possesses an ancient parish church, a tower house, and the massive earthworks of a Norman motte and bailey castle.  The tear-drop shaped village green is one of the largest in England.

The village lies within a natural bowl and there are many fine views.  The area is much loved by walkers, cyclists and people simply out for a drive to enjoy the countryside.
